Biography:

Abraham van Cuylenborch (1620–1658) was a Dutch painter associated with the Baroque movement. Born in Utrecht, he was part of the Utrecht School, which was known for its Caravaggisti influence, characterized by dramatic lighting and realistic detail. Van Cuylenborch specialized in landscapes and genre scenes, often incorporating classical ruins and figures into his compositions. His work reflects the influence of Italianate landscapes, a popular theme among his contemporaries. Despite his relatively short life, van Cuylenborch contributed to the rich tapestry of Dutch Golden Age painting, leaving behind a modest yet significant body of work. His paintings are noted for their atmospheric quality and meticulous attention to detail.
