Alan Davie
Alan Davie was a Scottish painter born on September 28, 1920, in Grangemouth, Scotland, and he passed away on April 5, 2014. He was a prominent figure in the post-war art scene, associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement, although his work also drew from Surrealism and primitive art. Davie's vibrant and spontaneous style was influenced by his interest in jazz music, mythology, and non-Western cultures, which he integrated into his paintings. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and later traveled extensively, which enriched his artistic perspective. Davie's work had a significant impact on the development of British abstract art, and he was an influential figure for younger artists, including David Hockney. His legacy is preserved in numerous public collections, including the Tate Gallery in London.
