Albert Gallatin Hoit was an American portrait painter born on December 13, 1809, in Sandwich, New Hampshire, and he passed away on December 18, 1856, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Hoit was associated with the 19th-century American portraiture movement, which emphasized realism and the depiction of the burgeoning American identity.
