Biography:

Alexander Nasmyth was a Scottish painter born on September 9, 1758, in Edinburgh, and he passed away on April 10, 1840. He is primarily associated with the Romantic movement, known for his landscape paintings that captured the natural beauty of Scotland. Nasmyth's work was influential in the development of landscape painting in Britain, and he is often referred to as the "father of Scottish landscape painting." He initially trained as a portrait painter under Allan Ramsay but later shifted his focus to landscapes, drawing inspiration from his travels in Italy. In addition to his painting, Nasmyth was also an accomplished architect and engineer, contributing to the design of several notable structures in Edinburgh. His legacy continued through his children, many of whom became artists, further cementing the Nasmyth family's impact on Scottish art.
