Ambrogio Lorenzetti
Ambrogio Lorenzetti was an Italian painter born circa 1290 in Siena and is believed to have died in 1348, likely due to the Black Death. He was a prominent figure of the Sienese School, an art movement known for its elegant and decorative style, which was distinct from the Florentine emphasis on naturalism. Lorenzetti's work is celebrated for its innovative use of perspective and spatial composition, as exemplified in his fresco cycle "The Allegory of Good and Bad Government" in the Palazzo Pubblico of Siena. This series is particularly noted for its detailed portrayal of urban and rural life, reflecting the socio-political ideals of the time. His contributions significantly influenced the development of narrative painting and civic art in the late medieval period. Despite his relatively short life, Lorenzetti's work left a lasting impact on the trajectory of Italian art, bridging the Gothic and early Renaissance styles.
