Biography:

Anson Dickinson was an American artist born on April 19, 1779, in Milton, Connecticut, and he passed away on March 9, 1852. He was a prominent figure in the American miniaturist movement, specializing in portrait miniatures during the early 19th century. Dickinson's work was highly sought after, and he became one of the most prolific miniaturists of his time, producing over 1,500 portraits throughout his career. His ability to capture the likeness and character of his subjects in small-scale works contributed significantly to the popularity of miniature portraiture in America. Dickinson traveled extensively along the East Coast, which allowed him to cultivate a diverse clientele, including notable figures of the era. His legacy is preserved in various collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
