Antoine-Louis Barye
Antoine-Louis Barye was a French sculptor born in 1796 and active until his death in 1875. He is best known for his contributions to the Romanticism movement, particularly through his dynamic and expressive animal sculptures. Barye studied under the neoclassical sculptor Pierre-Nicolas Beauvallet and gained recognition for his work at the Salon, where he exhibited numerous pieces. His most notable works include "The Lion and the Serpent" and "The Tiger Attacking a Bull," which exemplify his ability to capture movement and emotion. Barye's influence extended beyond his lifetime, impacting subsequent generations of sculptors and contributing to the evolution of animal sculpture in the 19th century. Despite his acclaim, details about his early life remain largely unknown.
