Biography:

Antonio Joli (1700–1777) was an Italian painter renowned for his contributions to the Vedutismo movement, which focused on detailed and realistic cityscapes and landscapes. Born in Modena, Joli trained in Rome and was influenced by the theatrical scenography of the time, which is evident in his works. He traveled extensively, working in cities such as Venice, Dresden, and London, where he became a member of the St. Martin's Lane Academy. Joli's paintings are characterized by their meticulous attention to architectural detail and atmospheric perspective, capturing the grandeur of 18th-century European cities. His work significantly impacted the development of vedute painting, influencing contemporaries and later artists in the genre.
