Augustus Vincent Tack
Augustus Vincent Tack was an American artist born on February 9, 1870, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he passed away on July 22, 1949, in New York City. Tack was associated with the Symbolist movement, known for his abstract and mystical landscapes that often explored spiritual themes. He studied at the Art Students League of New York and later became a prominent figure in the early 20th-century American art scene. Tack's work was characterized by its use of color and form to evoke emotional and spiritual responses, influencing the development of modernist painting in the United States. His collaboration with the philosopher and art collector Duncan Phillips led to significant commissions, including murals for the Phillips Memorial Gallery in Washington, D.C. Tack's legacy is preserved in major collections, including the Phillips Collection, which holds a substantial number of his works.
