Bernardino di Mariotto
Bernardino di Mariotto (c. 1478–1566) was an Italian painter associated with the Umbrian school of painting. Born in Perugia, he was active during the Renaissance, a period marked by a revival of classical learning and artistic innovation. Mariotto's work is characterized by its adherence to the stylistic elements of the Umbrian tradition, which emphasized clarity, harmony, and a delicate use of color. He is known for his religious compositions, which often reflect the influence of his contemporaries, such as Perugino and Pinturicchio. Throughout his career, Mariotto contributed to the dissemination of Renaissance ideals in central Italy, although his work did not achieve the same level of fame as some of his peers. His legacy is preserved in various altarpieces and frescoes that continue to be studied for their technical and aesthetic qualities.
