Bernardino Luini
Bernardino Luini was an Italian painter born around 1480 in Dumenza, near Lake Maggiore, and he died in 1532. He was a prominent figure of the High Renaissance, closely associated with the Lombard school of painting. Luini is best known for his frescoes and religious compositions, which exhibit the influence of Leonardo da Vinci, under whom he is believed to have studied. His works are characterized by their serene beauty and delicate use of color, contributing significantly to the diffusion of Leonardo's style in Northern Italy. Among his notable works are the frescoes in the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Lugano and the church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore in Milan. Luini's legacy is marked by his ability to blend the grandeur of the Renaissance with a distinctively gentle and lyrical approach.
