Bernardo Strozzi
Bernardo Strozzi (1581–1644) was an Italian painter, recognized as a prominent figure in the Baroque movement. Born in Genoa, Strozzi initially joined the Capuchin order, which influenced his early works characterized by religious themes. After leaving the order, he became a leading artist in Genoa and later in Venice, where his style evolved to incorporate vibrant colors and dynamic compositions. Strozzi's work significantly impacted the development of Baroque art in Northern Italy, blending Venetian colorism with the dramatic chiaroscuro of Caravaggio. His notable works include "The Cook" and "The Healing of Tobit," which exemplify his mastery in capturing human emotion and narrative. Strozzi's legacy is marked by his ability to convey both spiritual and secular subjects with equal vigor and sensitivity.
