Charles Herbert Woodbury was an American artist born on July 14, 1864, in Lynn, Massachusetts, and he passed away on January 21, 1940, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. He was a prominent figure in the American Impressionist movement, known for his dynamic seascapes and innovative approach to capturing the movement of water and light. Woodbury studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and later at the Académie Julian in Paris, which significantly influenced his artistic development. He was a dedicated educator, founding the Ogunquit Summer School of Drawing and Painting in Maine, where he taught numerous students and contributed to the dissemination of Impressionist techniques in the United States.
