Cosmè Tura

Cosmè Tura, an Italian painter born circa 1430 in Ferrara, was a prominent figure of the Early Renaissance. He was a leading artist of the Ferrarese School, known for his distinctive style characterized by intricate detail and a sense of linearity. Tura served as the court painter to the Este family, where he contributed significantly to the decoration of the Palazzo Schifanoia with his frescoes. His work is noted for its expressive figures and elaborate drapery, which influenced subsequent generations of artists in the region. Tura's impact is evident in his role in establishing a unique artistic identity for Ferrara during the Renaissance. He passed away in 1495, leaving behind a legacy that underscores the transition from Gothic to Renaissance art in Northern Italy.
