Edward Moran
Edward Moran was an American artist born on August 19, 1829, in Bolton, Lancashire, England, and he passed away on June 8, 1901, in New York City. He is best known for his maritime paintings, which contributed significantly to the American art movement of the 19th century. Moran immigrated to the United States with his family in 1844, settling in Philadelphia, where he studied under the guidance of marine painter James Hamilton. His work is characterized by its detailed and atmospheric depictions of seascapes and naval scenes, reflecting both Romantic and Realist influences. Moran's series "The Edward Moran Eighteen," which illustrates pivotal moments in American maritime history, remains a notable contribution to American art. Throughout his career, Moran exhibited widely, including at the National Academy of Design, and his works continue to be celebrated for their historical and artistic significance.
