Eglon van der Neer was a Dutch painter born in 1635 and died in 1703. He was associated with the Dutch Golden Age, a period marked by prolific artistic output and innovation in the Netherlands. Van der Neer was renowned for his genre scenes, portraits, and historical paintings, often characterized by meticulous detail and a refined use of color. He was the son of the landscape painter Aert van der Neer and initially trained under Jacob van Loo.
