El Greco, born Domenikos Theotokopoulos in 1541, was a Spanish painter and sculptor of Greek origin, active during the Renaissance. He is renowned for his distinctive style that combined elements of Byzantine art with Western painting, characterized by elongated figures and dramatic use of color and light. El Greco settled in Toledo, Spain, where he created some of his most famous works, including "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" and "View of Toledo." His innovative approach to form and expression significantly influenced the development of modern art, paving the way for later movements such as Expressionism. El Greco passed away in 1614, leaving behind a legacy that continues to be celebrated in art history.
