Ernest Wadsworth Longfellow
Ernest Wadsworth Longfellow (1845–1921) was an American painter known for his contributions to the Orientalist movement. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the renowned poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Longfellow studied art in Europe, where he was influenced by the works of the Old Masters and the burgeoning interest in Eastern cultures. His paintings often depicted exotic scenes and figures, reflecting the Western fascination with the East during the 19th century. Although not as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries, Longfellow's work contributed to the broader appreciation and understanding of Orientalism in American art. His legacy is preserved through his paintings, which continue to be studied for their cultural and historical significance.
