Eugène Isabey was a French painter and lithographer born in 1803 and active until his death in 1886. He was associated with the Romanticism movement, known for his evocative landscapes and maritime scenes that captured the sublime aspects of nature. Isabey gained recognition for his work in both oil painting and watercolor, contributing significantly to the development of marine painting in France. He was also a member of the Société des Artistes Français and exhibited regularly at the Salon. His influence extended to his students, including notable artists such as Gustave Courbet.
