Frans Post
Frans Post (1612–1680) was a Dutch painter known for his contributions to the Baroque art movement. He is recognized as one of the first European artists to depict the landscapes of Brazil, where he traveled in the 1630s as part of the Dutch West India Company's expedition. Post's works are characterized by their detailed representations of the Brazilian terrain and its flora and fauna, blending European artistic traditions with the exoticism of the New World. His paintings played a significant role in shaping European perceptions of South America during the 17th century. After returning to the Netherlands, he continued to produce landscapes, but his Brazilian works remain his most celebrated contributions to art history. The exact details of his later life and career are less documented.
