Frits (Johan Fredrik) Thaulow
Frits Thaulow, born Johan Fredrik Thaulow on October 20, 1847, in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway, was a prominent Norwegian painter associated with the Impressionist movement. Thaulow studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and later in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he honed his skills in naturalistic landscape painting. He is renowned for his ability to capture the interplay of light and water, often depicting serene river scenes and winter landscapes. Thaulow's work gained international recognition, and he exhibited widely across Europe, influencing the development of Impressionism in Scandinavia. He spent significant periods in France, where he interacted with other Impressionist artists, further enriching his style. Thaulow passed away on November 5, 1906, in Volendam, Netherlands, leaving behind a legacy of evocative and atmospheric landscapes.
