Biography:

Fujiwara Tameie (1198–1275) was a prominent Japanese poet and courtier, known for his significant contributions to the waka poetry tradition during the Kamakura period. As a member of the influential Fujiwara clan, Tameie played a crucial role in the continuation and development of the poetic legacy established by his grandfather, Fujiwara no Teika. He was instrumental in compiling the "Shin Kokin Wakashū," an imperial anthology that solidified the aesthetic principles of the time. Tameie's work and leadership in the poetic circles of his era helped to preserve and propagate the classical Japanese poetic form, influencing subsequent generations of poets. His life was marked by his dedication to the art of poetry, as well as his involvement in the political and cultural affairs of the court.
