Biography:

Gabor Peterdi was a Hungarian-American artist born in Budapest in 1915 and passed away in 2001. He was a prominent figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement, known for his innovative contributions to printmaking and painting. Peterdi studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and later at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he was influenced by the European avant-garde. After emigrating to the United States in 1939, he became a significant educator, teaching at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and later at Yale University, where he influenced a generation of artists. His work is characterized by a dynamic use of color and form, reflecting both his European roots and his adaptation to the American art scene. Peterdi's legacy is preserved in numerous collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
