Gaspard Dughet
Gaspard Dughet (1615–1675) was a French landscape painter who spent most of his life in Italy, where he became associated with the Baroque movement. Born in Rome to French parents, Dughet was the brother-in-law and pupil of the renowned painter Nicolas Poussin, whose influence is evident in Dughet's classical approach to landscape painting. Dughet's work is characterized by its idealized natural settings, often infused with a sense of tranquility and grandeur, which contributed significantly to the development of the classical landscape genre. He earned the nickname "Gaspard Poussin" due to his close association with his mentor and brother-in-law. Dughet's landscapes were highly regarded during his lifetime and continued to influence artists well into the 18th century. His legacy is preserved in numerous collections, including those of the Louvre and the National Gallery in London.
