Biography:

Guan Daosheng (1262–1319) was a Chinese painter, calligrapher, and poet of the Yuan dynasty, renowned for her contributions to the literati art movement. As one of the few female artists of her time to gain recognition, she was celebrated for her bamboo paintings, which were imbued with a delicate yet expressive style. Guan was married to Zhao Mengfu, a prominent painter and calligrapher, and together they formed a significant artistic partnership that influenced the cultural landscape of the Yuan period. Her work not only exemplified the literati ideals of personal expression and scholarly refinement but also paved the way for future generations of women artists in China. Her legacy is preserved in her surviving artworks and writings, which continue to be studied for their artistic and historical significance.
