Guariento di Arpo
Guariento di Arpo was an Italian painter born circa 1310 in Piove di Sacco, near Padua, and he died around 1370. He was a prominent figure in the Gothic art movement, known for his contributions to the development of fresco painting in Northern Italy. Guariento's work is characterized by its delicate use of color and graceful figures, which reflect the transition from Byzantine to more naturalistic styles. One of his most significant commissions was the fresco cycle in the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, although much of it was later destroyed. His influence extended to the Paduan school of painting, where he played a crucial role in shaping the artistic landscape of the region during the 14th century. Guariento's legacy is preserved in his surviving works, such as the frescoes in the Church of the Eremitani in Padua.
