Hannes Beckmann was a German-American artist born on May 7, 1909, in Stuttgart, Germany, and he passed away on June 9, 1977, in New York City. Beckmann was associated with the Bauhaus movement, having studied under prominent figures such as Josef Albers and László Moholy-Nagy. His work primarily focused on photography and painting, emphasizing geometric abstraction and the exploration of light and color. After emigrating to the United States in 1949, Beckmann contributed to the American art scene by teaching at the New Bauhaus, later known as the Institute of Design in Chicago. His impact is noted in his ability to bridge European modernist principles with American art education and practice.
