Hendrick Sorgh
Hendrick Sorgh (Dutch, 1610–1670) was a prominent figure in the Dutch Golden Age of painting, known for his genre scenes and still lifes. Born in Rotterdam, Sorgh was a pupil of David Teniers the Elder and was influenced by the Flemish tradition of detailed, everyday scenes. His works often depicted lively market scenes and domestic interiors, capturing the essence of 17th-century Dutch life with a keen eye for detail and composition. Sorgh's paintings are characterized by their vibrant use of color and meticulous attention to the textures of objects and fabrics. Throughout his career, he contributed significantly to the genre painting movement, which celebrated the quotidian aspects of life in the Netherlands. His legacy is preserved in several major collections, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
