Scheffer was the younger brother of the more renowned painter Ary Scheffer, and he studied under the tutelage of Pierre-Narcisse Guérin, a prominent figure in the Romantic movement. Throughout his career, Henry Scheffer was known for his historical and portrait paintings, contributing to the cultural milieu of 19th-century France.
