Huang Shen (1687–1772) was a Chinese painter and calligrapher, recognized as one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, a group known for their unconventional approach to art during the Qing Dynasty. Born in Ninghua, Fujian Province, Huang was initially trained in the orthodox style of the Southern School but later developed a distinctive style characterized by expressive brushwork and a focus on individualism. His work often depicted figures, landscapes, and flowers, reflecting a departure from traditional techniques and themes. Huang Shen's contributions significantly influenced the Yangzhou School, promoting a more personal and emotive form of artistic expression.
