Biography:

Hugo von Habermann (1849–1929) was a German painter associated with the Munich Secession, an art movement that sought to break away from traditional academic art. Born in Dillingen, Bavaria, Habermann initially pursued a career in law before dedicating himself to painting, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He became known for his portraits and genre scenes, characterized by a distinct use of color and light, which contributed to the evolution of modern art in Germany. As a founding member of the Munich Secession in 1892, Habermann played a significant role in promoting avant-garde art and fostering a community of progressive artists. His work and influence extended beyond his paintings, as he also served as a professor at the Munich Academy, where he mentored a new generation of artists.
