Biography:

James Seymour (1702–1752) was a British painter renowned for his contributions to the sporting art movement, particularly his depictions of horses and equestrian scenes. Born in London, Seymour was the son of a banker and goldsmith, which afforded him the opportunity to pursue his artistic interests. He became one of the leading equestrian artists of his time, capturing the dynamism and elegance of racehorses and hunting scenes with precision and flair. Seymour's work was highly sought after by the British aristocracy, and he was known for his ability to convey the spirit and movement of his subjects. Despite his success, Seymour's life was marked by financial difficulties, partly due to his extravagant lifestyle and gambling habits. His legacy endures through his detailed and lively portrayals of 18th-century British sporting life.
