Jiang Tingxi 蔣廷錫
Jiang Tingxi (1669–1732) was a prominent Chinese painter and scholar during the Qing Dynasty. He was born in Changshu, Jiangsu province, and became a significant figure in the court of the Kangxi Emperor. Jiang was associated with the court painting movement, known for its meticulous and detailed style, which was heavily influenced by the imperial patronage of the time. His work primarily focused on bird-and-flower paintings, a genre in which he excelled, contributing to the rich tradition of Chinese botanical illustration. Jiang also played a crucial role in compiling the "Complete Collection of Illustrations and Writings from the Earliest to Current Times" (Gujin Tushu Jicheng), an encyclopedic work that underscored his scholarly contributions. His artistic and scholarly endeavors left a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of Qing China, blending artistic excellence with intellectual rigor.
