Biography:

Joaquín Torres-García was a Uruguayan artist born on July 28, 1874, in Montevideo, and he passed away on August 8, 1949. He is renowned for his significant contributions to the Cubist movement, although his work also encompassed elements of Constructivism and Primitivism. Torres-García spent a substantial part of his career in Europe, where he interacted with prominent artists and was influenced by the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century. In 1934, he returned to Uruguay, where he founded the "Taller Torres-García," an influential art workshop that played a crucial role in the development of modern art in Latin America. His legacy is marked by his innovative approach to art, which sought to integrate universal symbols with a distinct Latin American identity.
