Biography:

Johan Barthold Jongkind was a Dutch painter born in 1819 and active until his death in 1891. He is recognized as a significant precursor to Impressionism, influencing later artists with his innovative use of light and color. Jongkind spent much of his life in France, where he developed a close relationship with the Impressionists, particularly Claude Monet. His works often depict landscapes and maritime scenes, showcasing his mastery of capturing atmospheric effects. Despite facing challenges in gaining recognition during his lifetime, Jongkind's contributions have been increasingly acknowledged in the art world, solidifying his legacy as a key figure in the evolution of modern art.
