Johannes Vermeer was a Dutch painter born in the Netherlands in 1632 and active until his death in 1675. He is renowned for his masterful use of light and color, which exemplifies the Baroque art movement. Vermeer produced a relatively small body of work, with only about 34 known paintings, yet his meticulous attention to detail and innovative compositions have had a lasting impact on the art world. Key works include "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and "The Milkmaid," both of which showcase his ability to capture intimate domestic scenes. Despite his significant influence, Vermeer remained relatively unknown during his lifetime and only gained widespread recognition in the 19th century.
