Biography:

Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo was a Spanish painter active during the Baroque period, born in 1612 and passing away in 1640. He is best known for his association with the renowned artist Diego Velázquez, serving as his assistant and son-in-law. Martínez del Mazo's work often reflected the influence of Velázquez, characterized by a similar use of light and shadow. His contributions to portraiture and genre scenes helped to solidify the stylistic developments of the Spanish Baroque. Despite his talent, much of his work remains lesser-known compared to his contemporaries, and details about his life are limited.
