Kano Tsunenobu

Kano Tsunenobu was a Japanese painter born in 1636 and died in 1713, who was a prominent figure in the Kano school, a major art movement in Japan known for its influence on Japanese painting from the late Muromachi period through the Edo period. As a member of the Kano family, Tsunenobu was instrumental in maintaining the school's prestigious position as official painters to the shogunate. He was the grandson of Kano Tanyu, one of the most celebrated artists of the school, and succeeded him as the head of the Kano workshop. Tsunenobu's work is characterized by its adherence to the traditional styles and techniques of the Kano school, while also incorporating elements of Chinese painting. His contributions helped sustain the Kano school's dominance in Japanese art during a period of significant cultural and political change.
