Liu Dan, born in 1953 in Nanjing, China, is a contemporary Chinese artist renowned for his meticulous ink paintings that bridge traditional Chinese art with modern sensibilities. He is associated with the New Literati movement, which seeks to reinterpret classical Chinese art forms through a contemporary lens. Liu Dan's work is characterized by its intricate detail and profound exploration of natural forms, such as rocks and flowers, often rendered with a meditative precision. After studying at the Jiangsu Traditional Chinese Painting Institute, he moved to the United States in 1981, where he further developed his unique style.
