Lucas van Leyden (c. 1494–1533) was a Dutch painter and printmaker, recognized as a leading figure of the Northern Renaissance. Born in Leiden, he was a prodigious talent, creating his first known engraving at the age of 14. Van Leyden was renowned for his detailed and innovative engravings, which demonstrated a mastery of line and composition, influencing contemporaries such as Albrecht Dürer. His work often depicted religious and genre scenes, characterized by a keen observation of human expression and intricate detail.
