Mark Bradford, born in 1961 in Los Angeles, California, is an influential American artist known for his large-scale abstract paintings and installations. He is associated with the contemporary art movement, particularly noted for his innovative use of materials such as end papers, maps, and billboard paper, which he layers and manipulates to explore themes of race, identity, and socio-political issues. Bradford earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the California Institute of the Arts, graduating in 1997.
