Melchior d' Hondecoeter
Melchior d'Hondecoeter (1636–1695) was a Dutch painter renowned for his specialization in depicting birds and animal subjects. He was a prominent figure in the Baroque movement, contributing significantly to the genre of still life and animal painting in the Netherlands. Born in Utrecht, d'Hondecoeter was part of a family of artists and received his initial training from his father, Gijsbert d'Hondecoeter. His works are characterized by their dynamic compositions and meticulous attention to detail, often featuring exotic birds in naturalistic settings. D'Hondecoeter's paintings were highly sought after during his lifetime, and he enjoyed patronage from the Dutch elite, including the House of Orange.
