Oliver Tarbell Eddy (1799–1868) was an American painter known for his contributions to the portrait genre in the 19th century. Born in Greenbush, New York, Eddy was part of the American portrait movement, which sought to capture the likeness and character of individuals during a period of burgeoning national identity. He studied under the tutelage of his father, Isaac Eddy, and later established himself as a portraitist in various cities, including Baltimore and Philadelphia. Eddy's work is characterized by its meticulous attention to detail and the ability to convey the personality of his sitters. His portraits provide valuable insights into the fashion and social status of his subjects, contributing to the historical understanding of the era.
