Orazio Gentileschi
Orazio Gentileschi was an Italian Baroque painter born in Pisa in 1563 and died in London in 1639. He was a prominent figure in the Caravaggisti movement, known for adopting and adapting the dramatic chiaroscuro and realistic detail characteristic of Caravaggio's work. Gentileschi's career was marked by his travels across Italy and later to England, where he served as a court painter to King Charles I. His works often featured biblical and mythological themes, rendered with a refined elegance and a distinctive use of light. Orazio's influence extended through his teaching, most notably to his daughter Artemisia Gentileschi, who became a renowned painter in her own right. His legacy is evident in the way he bridged the naturalism of Caravaggio with a more graceful and lyrical style.
