Paulus Moreelse
Paulus Moreelse (1571–1638) was a Dutch painter and architect, prominently associated with the Dutch Golden Age. Born in Utrecht, Moreelse was a pupil of the renowned portraitist Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt in Delft. He became a master in the Utrecht Guild of St. Luke in 1596 and was instrumental in the development of portrait painting in the region. Moreelse's work is characterized by its detailed and realistic portrayal of his subjects, contributing significantly to the popularity of portraiture during this period. In addition to his painting career, he was involved in architectural projects and served as a city councilor in Utrecht. His legacy includes a substantial body of portraits and historical paintings, which continue to be studied for their artistic and cultural significance.
