Philip Alexius de László was a Hungarian-born portrait painter, born on April 30, 1869, in Budapest, and he passed away on November 22, 1937, in London. He was a prominent figure in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for his association with the academic art movement. De László gained international acclaim for his portraits of royalty and notable figures, including members of the British royal family and European aristocracy. In 1900, he moved to Vienna and later settled in London in 1907, where he became a British citizen in 1914. His work is characterized by its technical precision and ability to capture the personality of his sitters, securing his reputation as one of the leading portraitists of his time.
