Pierre Puvis de Chavannes was a French painter born in 1824 and active until his death in 1898. He is associated with the Symbolism movement, known for his idealized and allegorical representations of themes such as nature, history, and the human condition. Puvis de Chavannes gained prominence for his large-scale murals, which can be found in various public buildings in France, including the Panthéon in Paris.
