Pietro Lorenzetti
Pietro Lorenzetti (c. 1280–1348) was an Italian painter from Siena, known for his contributions to the Sienese School of painting during the Gothic art movement. He was a contemporary of Duccio di Buoninsegna and is often credited with introducing a greater sense of naturalism and spatial depth into Sienese art. Lorenzetti's work is characterized by its emotional intensity and innovative use of perspective, as seen in his frescoes in the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi. His collaboration with his brother, Ambrogio Lorenzetti, further enriched the artistic landscape of Siena. Pietro's career was tragically cut short by the Black Death, which swept through Italy in 1348. His legacy endures through his influence on subsequent generations of artists and his role in the transition from medieval to early Renaissance art.
