Biography:

Ren Xun (1835–1893) was a Chinese painter associated with the Shanghai School, a movement known for its innovative approach to traditional Chinese painting techniques. Born in Xiaoshan, Zhejiang province, Ren Xun was part of a family of artists, including his brother Ren Yi, who also gained prominence in the same movement. Ren Xun's work is characterized by its expressive brushwork and vibrant use of color, often depicting figures and landscapes with a dynamic sense of movement. Throughout his career, he contributed significantly to the evolution of Chinese painting during the late Qing Dynasty, blending classical themes with modern sensibilities.
