Biography:

Richard Wilson was an English landscape painter born in 1714 and active until his death in 1782. He is recognized as a key figure in the Romanticism movement, known for his dramatic and emotive landscapes that influenced subsequent generations of artists. Wilson's work often depicted the Welsh countryside, showcasing his deep appreciation for nature and its sublime qualities. He was a founding member of the Royal Academy in 1768, which helped elevate the status of landscape painting in Britain. His innovative approach to composition and light contributed significantly to the development of Romantic landscape art. Despite his influence, Wilson's work was not widely appreciated during his lifetime, and he gained greater recognition posthumously.
